A Festive Tradition Returns!
On December 8, 2024, the Polish National Alliance hosted its annual Santa Comes to PNA (Mikołajki) event at the Home Office in Chicago. This festive gathering, rooted in the beloved Polish tradition of St. Nicholas, was free and open to the entire community.
St. Nicholas, a fourth-century bishop known for his generosity and kindness, inspired the modern-day Santa Claus. In Poland and other countries, children celebrate Mikołajki on December 6 by leaving out their shoes in hopes of finding small gifts from St. Nicholas. This tradition beautifully captures the spirit of giving during the holiday season.
The PNA continues to bring this tradition to life through its annual Mikołajki event. This year, over 100 children attended. The afternoon began with a delicious pizza lunch. Afterwards, children enjoyed colorful face painting and joined in exciting games led by cheerful elves.
Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas joined the celebration as a special guest, spreading holiday cheer with warm wishes to all. Her adorable puppy stole the spotlight, delighting the children who happily played and ran around with the energetic pup.
The highlight of the day, as always, was meeting Santa Claus. Children eagerly lined up to take photos with him and left with a special gift, creating lasting memories for both the young and young at heart.
We thank everyone who attended this year’s Santa Comes to PNA. We look forward to welcoming all again next year for another joyous Mikołajki!
